Islamic Risk Management Forum

Institute of Shariah Governance and Islamic Finance (ISGaIF), Islamic Business School (UUM) and UUM, Kuala Lumpur campus in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance (MOF) have successfully organised the Islamic Risk Management Forum on 6th April 2018 at Putrajaya.

The forum was initiated by the postgraduate students of UUM Kuala Lumpur as the partial requirement for the Islamic Risk management course in Masters in Islamic Finance and Banking Program. The theme is managing risk in the Islamic finance – opportunities and supervision. A total of 54 Participants from MOF, UUM Staff and students attended this forum. This forum brings together practitioners and academics for sharing of knowledge and ideas to have a better insight on Islamic risk management practices.

Among the panellists are Dr. Liza Mydin (Head of Strategic Research & Advisory, Maybank Islamic Berhad), Haji Razli Ramli (Head of Business Advisory, Islamic Banking and Finance Institute Malaysia (IBFIM) and Dr. Syed Adam Alhabshi (Partner of CSQ Law Advocates and Solicitors).

The discussion involves strengthening Malaysia’s position as an Islamic finance hub. The forum also stresses on the way banks leverage their risk management process and Islamic banks legal frameworks and at the same time highlights risk management challenges faced by the industry. Besides the forum, a talk on Managing Fiscal Risk – Perception vs Reality was also delivered by Encik Imri Dolhadi Ab Wahab, Head of Section, Fiscal Policy of MOF. Encik Omri illuminated the different types of risks that are linked to the Malaysian economy.The speaker also emphasised on fiscal risks reporting process as a mechanism to manage risks.

Professor Dr. Asmadi Mohamed Naim, the Dean of IBS has expressed his gratitude for the successful organization of this forum, to the MOF for the supports and to the organizer and UUMKL for the success of this event. The deputy director of UUMKL, Dr Rizal Mazlan has also shared his appreciation to all involved in making the event a successful one especially to the UUMKL (MIFB) Students. The forum was officiated by Dato’ Dr. Yusof bin Ismail, Undersecretary Strategic Investment Division, MOF.
